Dementia is one of New Zealand’s most significant and growing healthcare challenges. Almost 70,000 Kiwis have dementia, and that number is expected to almost triple by 2050.

We’ve worked with Alzheimers NZ for a number of years, across a variety of campaigns encompassing Dementia Awareness, Memory Walk participation, encouraging people to Wear Purple to show their support; to sign the Dementia Declaration and to join the Dementia Friends programme.

Alzheimers NZ’s Dementia Friends programme is designed to help make New Zealand a kinder, more supportive, inclusive and understanding place for people living with dementia.

Our work for the Dementia Friends programme has included logo design, promotion of the programme and designing & producing support materials, including wristbands and badges.

Alongside community events and other on-the-ground activities, we’ve assisted Alzheimers NZ to grow the number of Dementia Friends members by 75% in the last 6 months.

But more Dementia Friends are needed.  Being a Dementia Friend doesn’t have to take lots of your time – it can be as simple as being kind and helpful to people during your day, wearing a badge or wristband, or dropping round for a cuppa and a chat. These small kindnesses can make a huge difference to someone living with dementia.
