Clean, Cook, Chill This Summer

Enjoy firing up the barbie on a hot summers evening? Or do you love to entertain guests at dinner parties? Then make sure your food safety knowledge is all scrubbed up.

This summer’s campaign for Food Safety New Zealand focuses on food poisonings that occur in the home. Did you know that half of all food poisonings occur from unsafe food handling in the home? However, most people think the home is the safest place.

This campaign is to raise awareness about food safety practices in the home, so you don’t make your dinner guests sick! Don’t get sick this summer and follow the three C’s:

  • Clean: Wash hands, chopping boards, utensils and surfaces before and after preparing raw meat.
  • Cook: Cook meat and poultry thoroughly, until juices run clear.
  • Chill: Cover, store separately and chill in the fridge. If in doubt – chuck it out.
