2020 has been a big year for changes in New Zealand, one being modernised laws regarding our use of personal information. We are delighted to partner with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner New Zealand to launch a nationwide awareness campaign to announce the updates.
The Privacy Act 2020 introduces greater protections for individuals and some new obligations for businesses and organisations which includes:
- Protecting personal information that you collect and hold
- Reporting serious privacy breaches to the Privacy Commissioner
- Ensuring the information you hold can be accessed by the owner
- New obligations when sending personal information overseas
There are increased fines for organisations that don’t comply so be sure to read up on the Privacy Act 2020 and know what’s new.
The nationwide campaign launched on the 1st November, in sync with Privacy Week 2020. Strategic media planning was a key part in making sure our locally produced content reached New Zealanders in all the right places and various languages. To complement the wider campaign work, stakeholders were supplied campaign assets to help spread the word and feel a part of the launch campaign.
